Believe in Angels

In February of 2014, HAIL! Fredonia Records and label artist Ladies First, partnered with not-for-profit charity Melina’s White Light of Western New York to add in the fight against childhood cancer.

Melina’s White Light is a foundation dedicated to raising funds to further the research of Neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer that on average gives children under the age of six a 30-40% chance of survival.

The origin of this charity dates back to December of 2004, where at the age of 8 years old, a malignant tumor was found in the left adrenal gland of Melina Riniolo.

The first three years following the diagnosis consisted mostly of some routine scans and checkups. In August of 2006, on her tenth birthday, scans revealed the Neuroblastoma for the first time. After six months of intense therapy and radiation, Melina appeared to be rid of the cancer.

Unfortunately in 2008, Melina relapsed and was admitted to an immunotherapy study that was being offered at Sloan Kettering in NYC. Although a great deal of promise was found in the beginning, by January 2009 the Neuroblastoma returned once again. After another year and a half of fighting the cancer, Melina passed away on June 3, 2010.

Henceforth, Melina’s best friend Isabella Kaplan along with Melina’s family, have expanded Melina’s White Light, and have sponsored events in order to continue the fight against Neuroblastoma.

In addition to releasing the Ladies First single “Believe in Angels” HAIL! Fredonia Records successfully hosted two fundraiser events for the cause.
